Join the Future of XR in Rehabilitation!
The World Conference on Virtual Rehabilitation 2026, organised by XR4REHAB and ISVR, and hosted by the University College Cork, is your gateway to the global XR community driving innovation in healthcare.
Paper and abstract submission is open
We are open to many themes and submission types, so we encourage authors to submit to our Research Track or our Innovation Track.
Publication
All submissions will be included in a WCVR 2026 Proceedings document, available to registered attendees during the conference.
Additionally, you can choose to either:
publish your 300 word abstract in the Journal of Medical Extended Reality. There will be a cost to you of €50 for this (to allow the abstract to be open access). The cost will be collected as an add-on at registration.
OR
publish your long paper of 5-8 pages in the Springer Meteorite conference book. Because this publication will not be open access there will not be a cost to you.
Because of copyright you cannot publish using both of these two options.
Each long paper submitted will be assigned a DOI number, for abstracts, there is a general DOI for the entire supplement.
Orals and Posters
Potential presenters will be accepted based on a peer-review of the submitted abstract/long paper. You will have the option to submit your paper to be considered for a poster or oral presentation, although we cannot guarantee that you will be assigned as indicated.
Guidelines for authors
All papers/abstracts will be submitted using the Oxford abstracts portal, which requires the submitting author to create a user ID. There are two submission options. You will have the option to select the option you prefer when you submit your abstract.
- Abstract: 1-2 pages. You may include ONE image, figure, chart, or table.
- Long-paper: 5-8 pages (including bibliography). You may include up to FOUR images, figures, charts, or tables.
Regardless of the option chosen, the submission should meet the following criteria:
- Authors are asked to organize their abstract (<300 words) with the following sections: background, methodology, results, and conclusion.
- All long papers should be formatted according to the template provided: Click here to download Springer full-paper template
- Submissions should describe original and unpublished work with substantial results or novel methods or techniques.
- All submissions should also include the title, names of all the authors, affiliations and e-mail addresses. *The presenting author should be identified with an asterisk.
- Presenting authors must be registered participants.
- All abstracts must be submitted and presented in English.
To help you structure your submission separate guidelines are provided for the research and innovation headings.
- Background: State the gaps in knowledge that are directly relevant and the specific aims of the study.
- Methods: Describe the study design, setting, participants, primary outcome measures, data collection processes and methods of analysis.
- Results: Present the most important findings directly related to the stated aims. If results are incomplete at this point make clear what results may be expected at the time of presentation.
- Conclusions: State the degree to which the aims have been met. Summarise the clinical or scientific implications.
- Background: State the gaps in practice, patient need or technology development addressed by the innovation. State the main reasons why the innovation is expected to work.
- Methods: Describe the specific components of the innovation and the steps taken to set it up.
- Results: Describe what was successful about the innovation and why. (Quantitative or qualitative data can be provided if available.) Describe barriers experienced and how they were addressed. If the information is incomplete at this point make clear what may be expected at the time of presentation.
- Conclusions: Describe how the innovation is intended to be developed further and ideas or plans to ensure that it is viable in the longer term.
